Highlight to Flashcard — Last updated: August 25, 2026

In short: this extension does not collect, store, or transmit your data to us or to any server we operate. Everything stays in your own browser, except for the text you choose to send directly to Anthropic's API using your own API key.

What the extension does

Highlight to Flashcard lets you select text on any webpage and generate a study flashcard from it. When you use the right-click menu to create a flashcard, the selected text is sent directly from your browser to Anthropic's API (api.anthropic.com) using an API key that you provide and control. Anthropic generates a question-and-answer pair, which is returned to your browser and saved.

What data is collected

What data is NOT collected

We do not collect personally identifiable information, health information, financial information, authentication credentials (other than your own API key, which you control), personal communications, location data, general browsing/web history, or user activity such as clicks, mouse movement, or keystrokes.

Where your data lives

All flashcards, settings, and your API key are stored locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage APIs. We do not operate any backend server, and we do not have access to your flashcards, your API key, or the text you select. Uninstalling the extension removes this locally stored data.

Third parties

The only third party this extension communicates with is Anthropic (api.anthropic.com), to generate flashcard content from the text you select. That request is made directly from your browser using your own API key and is subject to Anthropic's privacy policy. We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any other third party.
